Over 900 major suppliers from 30+ countries and regions finalising their participation in industry’s most-awaited sourcing event of the year

HONG KONG, 24 May 2022 – Some of the world’s biggest jewellery and gemstone companies are taking part in Jewellery & Gem WORLD (JGW), previously known as the September Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair, which is temporarily relocating from Hong Kong to Singapore from 27 to 30 September. Exhibitor applications from over 900 suppliers from more than 30 countries and regions, and spanning the entire jewellery value chain are set to be finalised in the coming weeks, Informa Markets Jewellery announced today.

With still four months to go before the four-day event’s 27 September opening in Halls 4 – 6 of the Singapore EXPO, the industry’s No. 1 B2B sourcing event has already drawn an overwhelmingly positive response from buyers and exhibitors, signifying the growing clamour for the return of face-to-face sourcing events. The Singapore show will come on the heels of JGW Hong Kong Special Edition (16 – 19 September), a unique fair that will cater primarily to Hong Kong-based trade buyers and jewellery lovers due to the city’s continued international travel restrictions.

The full-scale version of JGW will return to Hong Kong in September 2023.

Confirmed exhibitors

Some of the industry-leading companies that will be at JGW Singapore include luxury jewellers Crivelli, FEI, House of Gems and KGK Jewellery; contemporary fine jewellers ADJ (Thai) Co Ltd, H V Jewels Co Ltd and Jewelcraft; fine and antique jewellery dealer Gemolithos Group GmbH; coloured gemstone suppliers Blue Gems Co Ltd, Miranda Group Co Ltd, Paul Wild OHG and RMC Gems, and diamond manufacturers H. K. Impex Pvt Ltd, J. B. And Brothers, S. Goldi, Sheetal and Tache to name a few.

One of JGW’s popular show attractions, the Germany Pavilion is gearing up to present the finest coloured gemstones, jewellery and technology innovations of its member-companies. The delegation is led by the German Association of Jewellery, Watches, Clocks & Supplying Industry (BV Schmuck + Uhren).

“We are very happy about the opportunity in Singapore. Those member-companies who used to participate in the three annual trade fairs in Hong Kong haven’t been able to see certain international clients for more than two years now. The temporary show in Singapore gives some of them the chance to see some of those clients again and start over again,” said Dr. Guido Grohmann, Managing Director of BV Schmuck + Uhren.

Nothing drives networking and partnerships better than in-person events, shared Nattawut Tovikkai, Managing Director of Thailand-based Blue Gems Co Ltd, a major supplier of rubies and sapphires.

“JGW Singapore is ideally timed for us to get in touch with our existing customers given the improving COVID situation in many parts of the world. After more than two years of being apart, we are now presented with the best opportunity to showcase our new products to potential clients in a physical format,” said Tovikkai, noting that the in-person buying experience is imperative when it comes to coloured gemstone sourcing.

“The online business model has its limitations,” he continued. Many of Blue Gems’ clients are looking forward to attending JGW Singapore since they want to see the stones beyond the screen, feel the weight of the gems in their hands and observe how different light sources affect their colours.

“The show also gives us the opportunity to develop the Singapore market, and forge relationships with local buyers,” Tovikkai said.

For Cam Li Miranda, Managing Director of Miranda Group Co Ltd, JGW Singapore is the ideal platform for the launch of her company’s exceptional coloured gemstone collections. The gemstone specialist has cutting and polishing facilities in Hong Kong and Shenzhen.

“We are glad to participate in JGW Singapore,” Miranda said. “We are a gemstone manufacturer that sources precious materials direct from our group’s own mines and associate mines. In the last 20 years, we have been working on our mine projects, especially the Paraiba tourmaline mines in Brazil, Mozambique and Nigeria. We have been developing this project constantly, and now post-COVID, we are ready to promote our finest gemstones to the international market.”

The Premier Pavilion exhibitor aims to connect with jewellery brands, high-end and branded luxury jewellery retailers, designers and collectors at the Singapore fair.

Another exhibitor who has high hopes for JGW Singapore is Gemolithos Group GmbH, a Germany-based company that deals in fine antique and luxury jewellery.

“It’s a must that we participate in JGW Singapore,” said Ioannis Alexandris, Founder and CEO of Gemolithos. “It is, of course, going to be a different B2B buying experience but we believe Singapore can be a great new opportunity for us. We hope this can be a strong alternative to the iconic September show until the COVID situation improves in Hong Kong.”

The fair is shaping up to be an industry-defining event. Its curated environment will feature leading suppliers from Asia, Europe, North America, South America, Australia, Africa and the Middle East. In terms of product categories, buyers will be wowed by JGW’s sheer offerings, which include diamonds, coloured gemstones, pearls, fei cui (jadeite jade), fine jewellery, antique and vintage collections, pre-owned jewellery, silver creations, lab-grown diamonds and technology solutions – all in one venue.

The exhibition is likewise anticipated to host pavilions featuring vendors from Africa, Colombia, Germany, India, Korea and Turkey, and member-companies of the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC) and the International Colored Gemstone Association (ICA).

Additionally, the Premier Pavilion, a section exclusive to the Singapore event, will present jewellery masterpieces, design-focused fine collections and investment-quality gemstones.

Exciting discoveries

Early commitments from some of the global jewellery community’s most established names are expected to bring an exciting range of products and resources to JGW Singapore, which is projected to draw more than 8,000 trade buyers.

“All signs point to an exciting and lively buying experience in Singapore this September,” said David Bondi, Senior Vice President of Informa Markets in Asia. “The last two years were the toughest that we had ever faced – both professionally and personally – and challenges do remain. We, however, believe that our journey to recovery is gaining momentum, and we are humbled and thankful to play a part in our industry’s rebuilding.”

The Singapore show will look different and feel different. It will, however, bring the same sense of community and purpose that defines JGW, Bondi continued.

“Everyone who is passionate about our industry will be there – manufacturers, designers, brands, retailers, wholesalers and innovators who will celebrate everything that is wonderful and enduring about jewellery – for four intense days of trading and networking,” he said.

With growth hopes further tempered by external headwinds, the significance of inspiring sourcing experiences like JGW Singapore cannot be overemphasised, said Celine Lau, Director of Jewellery Fairs at Informa Markets Jewellery

“The road ahead can be rife with disruptions,” Lau said. “To help open up new growth opportunities for suppliers and professional buyers, we are making our sourcing events work even harder for our community with initiatives such as JGW Singapore and other B2B events tailored to their needs.”

Singapore has been selected as the alternate venue for JGW this year because of its capacity to efficiently host large-scale events through the active and expert implementation of COVID-safe protocols, according to Informa Markets Jewellery.

In late April, the Lion City lifted most of its COVID-19 curbs. It allows quarantine-free entry for fully vaccinated travellers; removed pre-departure and on-arrival test requirements for fully vaccinated visitors, and eliminated capacity limits on large events. The further easing of community and border measures offers greater flexibility to those who are unable to fly to Hong Kong due to current travel restrictions and self-isolation requirements.

Also new to Informa Markets Jewellery this year is Jewellery & Gem ASEAN Bangkok (JGAB), which is debuting from 2 to 5 November at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC). JGAB is a B2B cash-and-carry event that allows buyers from Southeast Asia and beyond to instantly replenish their stocks for the busy Christmas and New Year selling season. The Bangkok fair is positioned as the industry’s last wholesale buying fair of the year.

Meanwhile, in Hong Kong, preparations are in full swing for the special in-person edition of Jewellery & Gem ASIA Hong Kong (JGA), scheduled for 16 to 19 June, and JGW Hong Kong Special Edition, set for 16 to 19 September. Taking place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC), both events are open to trade buyers and jewellery lovers.
